Gender Affirming Surgery Letters
Looking for a GAS Letter? I can help!
I complete letters for Gender Affirming Surgery (GAS) for both folks seeking therapy with me and those not seeking therapy with me.
Please contact me to learn more and/or to schedule with me!
The GAS Process
1) We have a quick phone call regarding the surgery you’re seeking and scheduling a time for our session.
2) You complete some forms I send you, including a release of information form to your surgeon.
3) We have one telehealth session together to gather the information I need to write the letter.
4) I send you the letter for you to review. I make any necessary changes and send it off to your surgeon. That’s it!
Turnaround Time, Cost, and Other Pertinent Details
Start to finish (i.e., from the first phone call to sending you the letter), the GAS process usually takes me a couple weeks. After we’ve completed our session together, I can often complete letters in roughly a week. I will be open and honest with you regarding timing and capacity based on time of year, my health status (as a chronically ill person, this can shift), and other factors.
I provide GAS letters on a sliding scale basis from $75 to $265 based on your report of what is accessible to you. I also provide one letter free of charge per month for individuals who can not access care using the sliding scale. There is no difference in time frame/ turnaround on the letter based on payment vs. the letter being free. Of note, although I wish that I could provide all my letters (and services!) free of charge, I unfortunately exist within the confines of capitalism and do need to charge a fee to support myself.
Last, I have signed The No More Gatekeeping pledge to complete letters after one session together. I may e-mail if you, if needed, with some follow up questions. A Note on Gatekeeping
As a trans, non-binary provider writing GAS letters for folks, I do my best to be thoughtful about the role of Psychology in gatekeeping trans and/or non-binary people from accessing services. I am aware that, as a Psychologist, I am part of this deeply flawed system. In my ideal world, I would have zero role in your ability to get gender affirming surgery and I recognize that my participation is, presently, required for many letters. I will do my best to make this as quick and painless as possible for you (see above regarding the No More Gatekeeping pledge) and want to hold the uncomfortable reality of our systems in mind. Please know that I am open to discussing gatekeeping with you and this will not impact your receipt of a letter from me.
